I was always under the impression that W Burger Bar was a take-out burger joint, so on my first visit here, I was surprised to see that it was an actual bar! Mike and I arrived at a good time, as we only had a five minute wait before we were seated. Soon afterwards, a group had formed by the door waiting for seats.
I’ve been meaning to go to Khao San Road for a few months now since it first opened. So, at last, Mike and I finally made our way here on a Friday evening with two of our friends. The restaurant is located in the clubbing district at Adeleide and Peter, and I was surprised to see what this area looked like in the daylight! It’s just not quite the same when you’re wandering around here in the dark after several drinks.
As usual, Mike and I had trouble deciding on where to have dinner on a Friday evening. Based on a recommendation from Mike’s co-worker, we decided to give Le Select Bistro a call to see if they had space for us later that night. Luckily, they were able to take us in at 9. The restaurant is located on a quiet strip on Wellington Street, just west of Spadina, near C Lounge. With a French bistro-feel, the décor reminded me of Pastis, a French bistro in New York.
Warning: Not for vegetarians or those trying to get in shape for the summer! Porchetta & Co has a small and simple menu featuring, you guessed it, porchetta! So, what exactly is porchetta? Based on their website, their porchetta is made follows: marinating pork shoulder for 24 hours, wrapping it in prosciutto and subsequently wrapping it again in cured pork belly.
If you’re in the mood for Italian food, I recommend Buca! This was our second visit here. I had recommended it to a co-worker who was raving about it the other day to me. Immediately, I had a craving to go back! It was already late in the afternoon on a Friday, but we decided to try our luck by calling in. Fortunately they said they could accommodate us but there was a reservation immediately after at 7, so we raced over to the restaurant.
