Scarpetta (Now Closed)

For Mike’s birthday we came to Scarpetta, located in the trendy Thompson hotel on Wellington near Bathurst. After reading some mixed reviews, I was a little apprehensive about coming here to celebrate his birthday. In all honesty, I had tried making a reservation at a few other restaurants (Ici Bistro and Frank’s Kitchen) beforehand but even calling three weeks in advance for a Saturday night reservation wasn’t quite far enough in advance. Luckily, our dinner here confirmed that Scarpetta was a great choice!

Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu

I’ve been meaning to try Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu for quite some time now but before I knew it, summer came and it was just too hot for a bubbling bowl of soup. So one cold evening when Mike and I were too lazy to cook, we thought what could be better than a hot bowl of tofu soup?

Bannock

I’m a fan of the Oliver and Bonacini chain of restaurants (i.e. Auberge du Pommier, Oliver & Bonacini Café & Grill, Jump) and when I heard that a new restaurant was opening up near the Eaton Centre, I was eager to try it.

Sushi Couture

I had a huge craving for sushi one day after work but didn’t feel like waiting for a table at the tiny Japango. So, Mike and I ended up at Sushi Couture, located on Bloor just east of Bathurst. I was curious to see how this sushi restaurant compared to Japango since the chef here had previously worked at Japango.

Holy Chuck

Located conveniently near the St. Clair subway station, I was excited to give this new burger joint a try. Given the long schlep to Burger’s Priest, and the great reviews Holy Chuck has been getting, I was hoping this would be a nice alternative to Burger’s Priest.
