Mezes

One Friday evening, when Mike felt like Greek food for dinner, I suggested Mezes in Greektown. I had an enjoyable meal there the last time I was there, maybe four years ago. We arrived just before nine and they were pretty busy. Luckily they had a table for the two of us and we were seated immediately.

[Vancouver] Chambar

I had been to Chambar several years ago and remembered it being quite good, so I thought it would be a nice place for a dinner with the family. Upon entering the restaurant, the first thing I noticed was how loud and busy it was on a Tuesday evening. Luckily we were taken into a separate room at the back of the restaurant which was much quieter. Like many of the restaurants in Gastown, the interior was dimly lit, had high ceilings and exposed brick walls.

Kinka Izakaya (previously Guu)

Since I’m from Vancouver I always wondered how the Toronto Guu’s compared. So, I made my way to the first Guu location in Toronto, located on Church.

Bymark

Mike and I decided to go to Bymark for a special occasion and at seven o’clock on a Friday evening, the restaurant was rather empty. We were seated at a corner banquette table which was quite nice and intimate. The restaurant was pretty quiet and didn’t feel pretentious at all. Maybe it was because it wasn’t filled with people in suits this evening.

[Vancouver] Roaming Dragon

Since Mike and I had a light lunch, we decided to grab a quick snack. As we were heading downtown, we decided to check out Roaming Dragon, which took home the 2011 Best Food Cart award from Vancouver Magazine. The city seems to be filled with a ton of food trucks these days, which didn’t exist last time I was home – about a year and a half ago.
