Malena (Now Closed)

Mike and I came to Malena with another couple, Chris and Jo, one Friday evening. The restaurant is located on Avenue, just south of Davenport. It’s actually just a few doors down from its sister restaurant L’Unita. Upon entering the restaurant, located in an old converted home, I instantly fell in love with its warm and cozy, yet elegant decor.

Hadley’s (Now Closed)

I don’t think I’ve ever wandered past Ossington on College, so heading over to Hadley’s area was a first for me. The restaurant occupies the northwest corner of College and Dovercourt and the small space resembles a bar containing limited seating – two booths, some bar seating and a handful of tables.

Arepa Cafe

I’ve walked by Arepa Café on Queen street many times and always thought it was a regular coffee shop. Little did I know, arepas are actually corn meal bread sandwiches which are popular in Venezuela. After watching an episode of Eat Street one morning which featured arepas, I was sold and dragged Mike over to Arepa Cafe.

C5 (Now Closed)

Located on the fifth floor of the ROM, C5’s space is absolutely gorgeous. With high ceilings, modern décor and angular walls it definitely fits in with the ROM’s Michael Lee-Chin crystal exterior. Mike and I decided to drop by for lunch on a weekday since we had heard Corbin Tomaszeski (previously from the Holt’s Café) recently took over as executive chef.

Salad King

Located in close proximity to the Eaton Centre and Ryerson University, Salad King is one of the most popular restaurants in the area. I’ve always wondered about the name of this restaurant. Despite its name, it actually serves up Thai food and not salad.
