Yet another Japanese restaurant from Vancouver has opened in Toronto. When I heard Kingyo Izakaya (@Kingyotoronto) was opening here, I couldn’t wait to give it a try given all the great things I’ve heard about the Vancouver location. Let me assure you, I didn’t leave disappointed!
If you’re looking for a great mid-week meal, Sidecar has a fantastic $25 three-course prix-fixe offered Sundays to Wednesdays. I dropped by with two friends on a Tuesday evening to find the place packed. Glad I made a reservation!

Who would’ve thought that the Rubino brothers, owners of the now-defunct upscale Rain and Ame, would open up a casual Italian restaurant serving up pizza and pasta? After their high-end ventures closed down several years ago, they’ve gone back to their roots with Southern Italian cooking.
Being in the mood for some Japanese tapas and not wanting to wait 2+ hours at Guu, my friends and I ended up at Chou Izakaya. The restaurant is located at Church and Wellsely, in the space that formerly housed Kaseki Sakura.
