Shocking as it may seem, one of the most memorable dishes I had in Hong Kong was scrambled eggs.

Since we were staying nearby in Wan Chai, my friend urged us to visit Capital Café for breakfast. This Hong Kong-style café (aka cha chaan teng) is a popular breakfast spot and everyone orders the scrambled eggs.

After being seated, we noticed that the menu on the table said “Christy Café”. Thinking we were at the wrong restaurant, we made a beeline for the exit. But when we came outside, the exterior sign said “Capital Café”. Super confused and embarrassed, we walked back into the restaurant requesting to sit down again. Surprisingly, the servers here are really nice and we had a good laugh with them upon our return.

Since we clearly weren’t locals, we were provided with an English menu. I started my meal off with my go-to drink, Cold Hong Kong Style Milk Tea ($20 HKD) which consists of black tea with a whole lot of evaporated milk. Capital Café’s version was reasonably strong and not too sweet. It definitely hit the spot.

I should also mention that the food arrives almost immediately after ordering. Most of these small Hong Kong restaurants are all about efficiency and turning tables. You get in and you get out!

The reason we came to Capital Café was for the Scrambled Eggs with Black Truffle ($38 HKD) and it definitely lived up to all the hype. I had no idea scrambled eggs could be so delicious! They were so light, fluffy, perfectly seasoned and unbelievably creamy. Oh, and the dusting of black truffles on top didn’t hurt either.

The other dish we shared was an order of French Toast ($20 HKD). Crispy on the outside with a fluffy interior, Capital Café does a pretty good French toast. But let’s be honest, the scrambled eggs with black truffle stole the show.
