I kicked off my Monday with a Winterlicious lunch at King Street Social. It was definitely a treat! I wish I could say I dined like this every day for lunch but sadly my usual PB&J sandwich pales in comparison.

The restaurant is located in the heart of the entertainment district on the bottom floor of the Hyatt Regency on King (@HyattOnKing). If you’re not sure where that is, the hotel is situated right next to the TIFF Bell Lightbox, for frame of reference.

The interior

King Street Social doesn’t look very big from the street but it’s actually quite spacious inside and is designed with sleek and modern decor. A private room is also available which would be ideal for a corporate meal or birthday party.

I was invited for a blogger lunch on Monday which showcased all their Winterlicious offerings. The three-course prix-fixe menus are $20 for lunch and $35 for dinner. It was certainly a fun and interactive meal as we started off at their Mix Bistro Bar and had the opportunity to get acquainted with Executive Chef Wesley Boodhram.

One of the highlights for me came at the start of the meal, the Roasted Red Bell Pepper Bisque. I loved the intense flavour of the red bell peppers and the addition of the truffle crème was a wonderful touch (doesn’t it make everything better?).

We sampled two salads, the Grilled Black Tiger Prawns and Winter Greens. The seasoning on the prawns packed quite the flavour punch and they were grilled to perfection. As for the winter greens, they might not sound like the most exciting dish but the table couldn’t stop talking about that killer orange chili vinaigrette.

Another hit at the table was the Sable Fish – butter poached with cannellini beans, grilled heirloom carrots, cognac cream & miso cress. I love sable fish (aka black cod) and this dish was no exception. The buttery fish was cooked perfectly and paired nicely with the hearty cannellini beans.

For you vegetarians, there’s the Braised Green Lentils, Baby Spinach, Grilled Vegetables & White Bean Hummus. The veggies were all cooked nicely but the papadum stole the show for me. I initially broke off a small piece just to sample but I kept going back for more until there were a few mere crumbs left.

Unfortunately I had to head out before getting a chance to sample the desserts but you’ve gotta admit, they look pretty darn good – particularly those cannolis!

You have until February 13th to take advantage of Winterlicious, so get booking!
