Earlier this year, Osteria dei Ganzi (@GanziToronto) opened its doors at Jarvis and Wellesley. Serving up Italian fare, this restaurant is located in a beautiful historic mansion built in the late 1800’s.

With high ceilings, stained glass windows and preserved details of the original building, the restaurant has a wonderful old-school feel. That’s not to say there aren’t modern touches to the space – just take a look at the modern bar sun room. There’s also an enormous wrap-around patio that seats 200 people.

Brought to you by Dan Gunam (Roosevelt Room), Luca Viscardi (Toula) and Ron Yeung, Osteria dei Ganzi is a place that’s more than just about the food – they wanted to create a restaurant where people come to socialize – putting the phones down and spending quality time with the people you love.

The Bar

With an extensive menu of wood boards, antipasti, crostini, insalata (salads), carpacci, pesce (fish), carni (meat), pasta and pizza, there’s something for everyone here.

Last week, I attended the media launch of their new menu. Here’s a look at what they have to offer:

A selection of pizza – Margherita (tomato, buffalo mozzarella & basil), Bosco (wild mushroom, truffle oil, asparagus & burrata), Bianca (prosciutto, figs, honey, ricotta & asiago) and Salmone (smoked salmon, salsa Bianca & burrata)

Highlights for me included the Bianca pizza, the Misto Board and tiramisu. I love a good sweet and savoury dish and the combination of the prosciutto, figs and ricotta on the Bianca pizza was perfection.

The Misto Board had a nice selection of various meats and cheeses but the two items on the board that really stood out for me were the fried olives (an amazing bar snack) and sweet basil marmalade which paired wonderfully with the cheeses.

As for the desserts, the tiramisu was the star for me. The mini jar of delicious tiramisu was a great bite to end off the meal and left me wanting more!
