If you’re looking for a quick and cheap meal in South Beach, La Sandwicherie is the ideal spot. Open in South Beach since 1988, this spot serves up fresh sandwiches, salads and smoothies.

La Sandwicherie

La Sandwicherie is very unassuming – it faces an alley and is situated next to a tattoo parlour. Most people get their food to go since it’s basically an outdoor sandwich counter with limited stools for seating.

Their sandwich offerings include typical deli meats like ham, turkey and roast beef as well as pate, prosciutto and smoked salmon. It’s nothing revolutionary by any means but their ingredients are really fresh, making for an awesome sandwich. They’re open late into the night which also makes them popular with the post-clubbing crowd…or so I’ve heard.

Watching the sandwich-making

We started off with the Rainbow Smoothie – strawberries, peach, blueberries, kiwi & banana ($4.75). This 16oz smoothie was refreshing and left us wanting more!

With an extensive selection of sandwiches to choose from, I finally narrowed it down to the Salami & Provolone Sandwich ($6.80). For all sandwiches, you get your choice of bread – a French baguette, croissant (extra $0.85) or wheat bread (extra $0.30). I opted for the croissant which was flakey, buttery and tasted fresh even though I was here in the evening for dinner.

Your topping choices include lettuce, tomatoes, green & hot peppers, black olives, onions, cucumbers, cornichons (French pickles), mayo and vinaigrette (French dressing). Going with everything is the way to go! The sandwich was piled high with the fresh ingredients. The cornichons gave the sandwich a nice tang and I really enjoyed the Dijon based vinaigrette. It was a damn good sandwich!

We also decided to order one of their salads, the Salade Prosciutto – sliced prosciutto garnished with everything ($8.30). We added fresh mozzarella to it for an extra $1.55 which was well worth it! You get a lot of mozzarella!

The Salade Prosciutto

The same fresh toppings as the sandwich topped the salad. Nothing complicated about the salad but when you have fresh ingredients, that’s all you really need!

I wouldn’t say La Sandwicherie is a “must visit” in Miami given that there are many places that serve up a great sandwich. However, if you’re in South Beach and craving a sandwich which won’t cost you a pretty penny, La Sandwicherie is the place to go!
