Located at King and Portland, in close proximity to the gym I normally go to, I’m surprised The One That Got Away didn’t tempt me sooner. Like most fish and chip joints, this one is quite casual with limited seating. I imagine it gets pretty busy here during the lunch rush.

The interior

You order at the counter, off the chalkboard menu on the wall. The menu features tons of deep fried goodies which you can get in the form of wraps, sandwiches and salad. If you’re looking for a healthier option, most of the fish can also be grilled instead of deep fried.

The menu

Having heard amazing things about their Fish Tacos ($10.95), we knew this was a must-order. The order came with three tasty tacos containing lettuce, sour cream, cilantro and packed full of deep fried fish. It also came with a side of pico de gallo which added a nice flavour to it all.

Fish Tacos

While I thought the fish tacos were good, I can’t say they were mind blowing. I definitely preferred the ones at Grand Electric.

Coming hungry, we also ordered the Fish Basket – shrimp, scallops, calamari, haddock, fries, tartar & coleslaw ($15.99). The scallops were moist and I really enjoyed the herbed breading on the calamari. Unfortunately I found the haddock to be a little tough and dry. For some solid fish and chips, I recommend checking out Off The Hook on the Danforth.

The Fish Basket

I have to say, even after eating all that deep fried food, it didn’t leave me feeling disgusting (you know what I’m talking about!). My final thoughts? Overall, a nice place to grab a quick bite to eat but nothing I’d go out of my way for.

If you compare the fish tacos at Grand Electric and the Ahi tuna tocos at Joey, which one do you prefer
