While running some errands in the Yonge and Eglinton area, Mike and I stopped by La Boheme for lunch. La Boheme is a coffee and pastry shop which serves up a variety of sandwiches, quiches, pastries and desserts.

Ham & swiss cheese croissant

The space is clean, bright and airy. After ordering and paying for your food, you wait for it at the end of the counter while it’s being prepared. The space have quite a bit of seating as well as a small patio in the back of the restaurant.

Although there were quite a few people here for lunch, I also noticed a number of people just enjoying a coffee here while on their laptops – there’s free wifi. And for those who are just looking for some coffee, La Boheme uses Te Aro coffee beans. Since I wasn’t in the mood for coffee (which rarely happens), I just ordered a fresh orange juice ($3.95).

Since we were here for lunch, I ordered the ham & swiss cheese croissant – Ham and Swiss cheese with béchamel sauce ($4.95). I wish they had heated it up a bit more as it was a touch cold and cold béchamel sauce isn’t very appetizing at all. However, the croissant itself was light, flakey and butter. Maybe I should have just ordered a plain croissant instead.

Grilled chicken sandwich (picture above only shows half)

Mike went with the grilled chicken sandwich – grilled chicken on arugula with eggplant and garlic spread ($7.75). The grilled chicken was served on a nice baguette which wasn’t too tough or chewy. The portion was also quite substantial. I think I would have been satisfied with just half of this, but Mike’s a different story. The chicken had a balsamic glaze and I loved the combination of it with the arugula and spread. Although I really enjoyed it, Mike found that the Dijon mustard in the spread was too overwhelming.

For dessert, we ordered a mixed berry tart ($5.60). I’m a sucker for berry/fruit tarts. This particular tart contained a light vanilla cream topped with sweet strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. I hate it when fruit tarts contain sour fruit and thankfully the berries on this tart were ripe! Although I enjoyed the tart, I think I would have preferred it with custard instead of the cream.

La Boheme is definitely a nice spot to grab a coffee, lunch or dessert.  They have a large display case full of delicious-looking desserts, which I’ll definitely be back to try!

Jesus, that stuff looks good. That croissant is speaking to me! I agree – all croissants should be nice and hot.

Mhmm! I think it just turned me off a bit because it had a bechamel sauce on it which was all cold and gluey. Croissant itself was real nice though!
