Egg tarts

Finally, onto the desserts! The first dish that came was the Freshly Baked Egg Tarts – in a puff pastry shell dusted with Swallow’s Nest (3 for $5.50).

I was a little disappointed when they came since they were so tiny (especially given their price point). However, price aside, they were delicious!

They were certainly fresh, had a nice soft custard and a nice flakey crust. I could see the swallow’s nest on top of the egg tarts but I don’t think they really added anything to the dish, except maybe the price.

The second dessert we ordered was the Red Bean Cake – with coconut flavour (3 for $3.30).

Red Bean Cake

I have to say, I’m not a huge fan of red bean so I’m not sure I can provide an unbiased opinion about this dish. The name on the menu is a little deceiving as this isn’t really a cake. It was more like red bean jello with a layer of coconut flavour. I tried a bit of the coconut portion and found that it had a strange taste to it. I didn’t really enjoy this.

The last thing we had was the Steamed Buns – with milk custard and egg yolk (3 for $4.80). What a great way to end our enormous meal. The filling was more watery than I had expected and was actually quite oily, but this was oh-so-delicious!

Overall, we had a good experience here. Sure, there were some dishes I didn’t love, but on the whole, I’d come back.
