Another one of those times where a restaurant is well worth the hype! Mike and I finally made our way to the Burger’s Priest on a hot Monday evening. After being stuck on the hot street car for about 20 minutes, we arrived at Burger’s Priest – a tiny burger joint with six stools and no air con. Although it was pretty busy, we were able to grab two stools as a couple was leaving. I’m pretty sure I smelled of fries and grease after leaving…

The High Priest

After reading about their “secret” menu, I already knew what I was going to order – the “High Priest,” their take on the Big Mac. When I went up to the cashier to confirm this, she informed me she’s not allowed to say anything about their “secret” menu, and that I simply had to order the item. Luckily, the High Priest was what I wanted! It consisted of two patties, separated by a middle bun, cheese, lettuce, pickles and sauce. Although this tasted pretty damn close to a Big Mac, it was so much better! They cook their patties on the flat top here. They’re loosely packed, cooked medium and are extremely juicy (and greasy, but who’s counting calories?). This was a ridiculously good burger!

The Priest and fries

Mike went with the Priest – the “option” + cheeseburger ($9.99). The “option” consists of mushrooms stuffed with cheese and then fried. I thought my burger was amazing… but I think this was even better! The fried and stuffed mushroom just elevated this burger to a “wow” level! The crunchiness from being deep-fried and the gooey cheese inside was amazing. My only complaint about the two burgers was the bun. They certainly didn’t hold up very well against the juiciness of the patties. So, I wouldn’t recommend transporting these burgers very far, since they probably won’t hold up very well if they’re not eaten immediately.

We also ordered a side of fries for $3.29. They were limp and not at all crispy. I certainly wouldn’t recommend ordering these. Mike said we were probably better off just ordering another burger instead of this, and I completely agree! Oh well, given their amazing burgers, I can forgive them for this.

Although the burgers are a bit on the pricey side (around $10 per burger), they were totally worth the price and the trek. I love it when restaurants are worth the hype. They really do serve up some of the best burgers in the city! Just keep in mind they take cash only and it’s a really small space with limited seating.

You definitely should! I’m always a little worried about going to places with so much hype, but this lived up to its expectations. The priest burger with the fried/stuffed mushroom was pretty ridiculous! I think they also have a “vatican” burger which is sandwiched between two grilled cheeses!
