My friend Chris and I came to Bar Volo one evening after work. We wanted to go somewhere with a good beer selection which wasn’t too far away from the financial district, so we ended up at Bar Volo, located on Yonge, just north of Wellesley subway station. The restaurant has a cozy and eclectic feel to it. It’s also on the small side, so be prepared to feel a bit cramped.
I knew that Lee Lounge had opened up recently and I became a little confused as I was reading online about Lee Restaurant and Lee Lounge, so I called to inquire if they were the same restaurant. I was told that after Susur’s old restaurant (Madeline) closed down, they turned the space into Lee Lounge and connected it to Lee restaurant. Although the atmospheres in the two rooms are different, I was informed that the menus are the same.
One afternoon I felt like having something light for lunch, so I suggested sandwiches. Somehow, we ended up at Black Camel, a sandwich joint which serves up anything but light sandwiches! Located just across the street from the Rosedale subway station, I’ve always been tempted to pick up a sandwich every time I walked by. The aroma of their brisket and pulled pork always makes my mouth water.
On a Saturday evening, Mike and I made plans with another couple for brunch the next day. Even when it’s just me and Mike going out for a Sunday brunch, we often have to wait. Given that there’d be four of us, we decided to try Le Select Bistro, since I knew they take reservations for brunch. Since it was the evening before, the only time they had available was 10:30am (when they open on Sundays). I was surprised that the person on the phone told me they only had a table available at 10:30, since it didn’t appear too busy to me during our entire meal here.

When I first found out I was going to Washington, DC for work, the first thing I did was research its food scene… Unfortunately I was travelling by myself, so my options were a bit limited. One place that came up was Ben’s Chili Bowl, a DC institution. Located by the U Street-African American Civil War Memorial metro stop, I hopped on the metro and made my way over.
