Lady Marmalade

I decided to start off my first day of vacation with brunch! Since it was a Monday the options were a little limited. After a bit of research, I discovered that Lady Marmalade was open, so my friend Chris and I made our way over. It happened to be an extremely hot day which made it an uncomfortable street car ride. Unfortunately, Lady Marmalade didn’t have air con either…only fans that blew around the hot air, so I was hoping the food was worth it.

[Vancouver] Jethro’s Fine Grub

Before even arriving in Vancouver, my friend Dave told me he had to take me to Jethro’s, a great little breakfast spot. We dropped by on a Wednesday morning for breakfast. Luckily they serve up their breakfast items seven days a week so no need to fight the weekend brunch crowds!  The restaurant is in a pretty small space which fits maybe 25 people. The decor is pretty minimalist which is quite a contract from the kitschy décor at many of the brunch spots in Toronto.

[Vancouver] Meat and Bread

After going down to Gastown to try the tacos at La Taqueria, Mike and I walked by Meat and Bread, another place on my list of places to try during my visit. Since we weren’t full from the tacos we decided to drop in for some sandwiches. I had read about their porchetta sandwiches and wanted to see how it compared to Porchetta & Co. in Toronto.

Caplansky’s Delicatessen

Mike had been suggesting Caplansky’s for a while before we ended up here on a rainy Saturday night when we were too lazy to cook dinner. The atmosphere here was a little gloomy, kind of like the weather that evening. It was pretty empty except for several individuals eating by themselves.

Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill

Since Mike and I previously had a great experience at the Waterloo Oliver & Bonacini, we decided to give the Toronto (Yonge and Front) location a try. This location opened up about a year ago, replacing the Shopsy’s Deli which used to occupy the spot. Upon entering the restaurant, I was surprised to see how large the space was. It has a large dining area, a bar/lounge area, as well as a large patio.
